Silica

Silicon Dioxide (SiO 2).
The main glass former in ceramic glazes. It raises the maturing temperature.
Common raw materials are Quartz and Flint.
An acidic oxide.

Soda

Sodium oxide (Na2O).
A strong flux with a high thermal expansion.
Common raw materials are Feldspar , Cornish Stone and Nepheline Syenite.
A basic oxide (Alkali).

Strontia

Used by the Glaze Calculator to describe Strontium oxide (SrO). It is often used to replace Baria as it is considered relatively non-toxic.
Common raw materials are Strontium Oxide and Strontium Carbonate.
A basic oxide (Alkaline Earth).
