Calcia
Calcium oxide (CaO)
It is found in most glazes. High temperature flux.
Common raw materials are Limestone, Whiting, Wollastonite and Dolomite.
A basic oxide (Alkaline Earth).
Ceramics
Derived from Keramos, the Greek word for Potters' Clay. Ceramics is at term used to describe all products made from fired clay.
Clay
Common clay materials are Kaolin or China Clay, Ball Clay and Fireclay. Kaolinite (AL2O3.2SiO2.2H2O) is the purest form of clay.
Coefficient
of Thermal Expansion
The Thermal Expansion of a glaze based on the Additive Law. The unit measurement is either linear or cubic per degree centigrade.
Colemanite
A raw material that is normally used to supply Boric Oxide in a glaze.
Cone
Pyrometric Cone. A mixture of raw materials designed to melt after a given amount of 'Heat Work'.
Cone Equivalent
The temperature at which a Cone matures.
Cornish Stone
A feldspathic raw material with a high Silica content.
